Snap Berkshire Hampshire border. Worth reporting to dealer. Both Snows Newbury and Basingstoke (conducted Diagnostics) are aware of my issues with DAB. If that helps. New Antenna on order as it also affects Live Traffic and Routing of the SATNAV. The Courtesy Car Radio worked fine by the way. 😂
Thanks and interesting on NAV issues too. I tend not to use the in car NAV and use either google maps or waze through Apple CarPlay and they’ve been having mysterious moments too. I wonder whether these are associated issues?

Finally got mine in this Fri to have the DAB issues investigated. Plus they can also look at the bonnet catch that has failed, meaning it’s only held closed on the safety latch 😮 (cable ties deployed as extra safety for journey to dealer!)

Minor update. I have a brand new Rio as the courtesy car and the DAB stability/coverage in it from the dealer to back home (8mls) was flawless. Whereas on the same journey to take my car in I had patchy coverage for 50% of the time.

So, according to the dealer a s/w update and all was fixed! I had my doubts, so I asked did they drive the car to test the DAB reception and they said of course. I got in the car and looked at the mileage and it was exactly the same as when I dropped it off….so absolute BS that they drove it.
Within a couple of miles it was clear that the issue wasn’t fixed, so I was straight back on the phone whilst driving, politely telling them I didn’t like being taken for a mug. I’m expecting a call back and some wacky explanation tomorrow no doubt…..I also have the number for Kia Customer Service UK 0344 375 7707 (if anyone needs it) and I’ll be giving them a call too.

I can add to this, have exactly the same problem, virtually no radio reception, been back to dealer, to cut a long story short, awaiting answer from KIA technical, this looks like a major problem, just hope KIA resolve this sooner rather than later.
My antenna ordered 4 weeks ago still hasn’t arrived despite dealer chasing.

This is what @Kia Customer Service told me a few days ago….We're sorry to learn of the DAB issues. We haven't been made aware of a known issue so far but our central Technical department have a vigorous monitoring programme and ask that all dealers submit technical cases to them if any quality issues are reported. Please continue to have this inspected with your dealer and if it can't be explained by usual DAB characteristics, they should open a technical case.

I find this strange as my dealer told me it had been reported to Kia, as I suspect other members dealers have done also. Not only that but my dealer discussed with Kia and replacing the antenna was the agreed approach. My dealer has at least 4 cases of new model Sportage dab issues.

Any news from anyone else?
Any news back on this? I’m awaiting a reply from Kia UK….I‘ll hopefully hear back tomorrow.

Not from me. I’ve raised a complaint and waiting for the results of an independent examiners report. My dealer insists there‘s no fault so have gone down the route of Insufficient Quality and Not As Described under the Consumer Rights Act.
Have you spoken with Kia UK? They were definitely a step-up in customer care compared to my dealer.

I get your point but I love my music and went for the upgraded sound system deliberately. If I’m paying £40k for something I expect it to work properly. Each to their own.
I totally agree, I listen to DAB only stations and not having these is mighty frustrating. I get that it’s not a safety issue or that it massively impinges on the driving experience, but to me it’s an important feature of a car. I registered my problem with the dealer within the 30 days and now I have Kia UK on the case. So if this issue persists or takes ages to sort I’ll be able to seek other remedies in due course.

Ok. It’s been in again (3rd time) and finally a report has been sent to Kia Technical. I’m guessing the more people to complain and push for a fix the more reports will get sent.
Well done for getting this far. Having hoped that Kia UK would improve on the poor response from my dealer I’m not so sure now. Kia UK promised a follow up by Tue. By Wed I’d heard nothing and so chased….still waiting for them to call me back! Sending a strongly worded email now.

For those who are reporting similar issues to Kia.
Try plugging in your phone and testing that too. I’ve noticed that my phone drops to 3G frequently but when I unplug it, it pops back to 4G, so it’s gotta be the aerial or a software thing. Only noticed it when I gave up with the radio and started to stream music using CarPlay (which is similarly problematic).
I’ll be mentioning this to Kia when they get back to me, it just adds more evidence that theres an issue with the system rather than atmospherics as they’d have you believe.
Agree. I mentioned before that when using CarPlay the Nav I use (Waze or Google Maps) often have issues. Like yesterday when I was down south yet Waze was adamant I was on the M6 up North. Nothing I did convinced the system otherwise.

I’m an RF engineer….not broadcast, more comms and other stuff. If they think they’ll be able to fob me off, they’re mistaken!

Hi All
I have the same problem with my DAB Radio and the car went into KIA and they said they could do nothing, :( I then downloaded an up date from Kia Navigation updates, you need a 64gb pendrive an installed it about 1 hour installation time, unfortunately it has not resolved the problem apart from that am loving the car.
Complain to Kia UK. The dealer can’t get away with saying they can do nothing…that’s lame and unacceptable!

Looks like Kia UK are denying there’s a known problem. Does anyone have a case reference they are willing to share so we can join forces?

Stoped at my dealer today to complain about the radio reception and the freezing display. Was told to listen to FM because DAB is different and doesnt work properly. To say I wasn’t impressed would be an understatement!!
Shocking and another lame dealer it would seem.

It would seem I could be making progress. Here’s the latest from dealer:

“Following your last email we escalated the case with Kia Technical they in turn have spoken to LG. The outcome of this is that we have been given a one off code to access the history of the dab signal strength. LG would like us to access the unit to record the occasions when the unit has lost signal. We will need the car for around 1 hr to do this”

Sounds like LG may have some appropriate monitoring code which should be able to sort out if it's a signal/antenna issue or electronic.

I have a Stonic 1st Edition and DAB performance is as I'd expect, some signal loss where I know the path to the transmitter is screened (I'm a RF geek) The antenna is however a rod as opposed to a sharks fin. I would not trust sharks fins as they are not optimum for (or anywhere near) the DAB radio frequencies. They are compromises.
Me to….more than a geek, I’m Chartered Engineer in RF, although broadcast stuff isn’t my specialism 😉 - but the same-ish propagation fundamentals apply regardless.

On sharks fin….I had one on my A4 Avant and I was more than happy with the DAB performance on that in the 8 years I owned it.

That’s really positive mate. It’s been two weeks since I was told issue/fault was sent to Technical and not heard anything yet, I don’t expect to for a bit to be honest. Sounds like this is getting a bit of traction..
Yes, hopefully of help to others now who have the same issue. Get back to your dealers and tell them you know they can do this level of diagnosis … so they best get on with it 😉
