Hi, I’m new to this Club and would like some advice please. I have a 2017 cee’d GT S line and the windscreen cracked in July. To date the two major UK replacement companies have been unable to source the correct replacement. Has anyone else had to wait this ridiculous length of time? Many thanks, Macaw

Hi, thanks for your reply. I have asked the Kia dealership who I bought the car from (new) and spoken to Kia UK. Neither could help me. Find it so surprising there are none available and nobody can give me any information on delivery/availability - very frustrating! Macaw

Have you asked any Kia dealers about the issue.
In the light of the response from 'Macaw' in post #3, isn't this something that the KCS team in this forum should follow up?

Frankly, I'm appalled that a KIA dealer could treat a customer so badly and I don't understand how anyone at KIA UK could then fail to put this matter right unless I'm missing something here?

Seems very odd to me. Its your insurance company that arranges for replacement screens to be fitted and whilst some will use OEM most source from other places.

Its also fair to say that during the last 6 months many 2012-2018 Ceeds will also have required a new screen, are they all waiting?

OP should also be aware that since a cracked screen is an MOT failure which technically makes the car unroadworthy, if he were stopped by the Police he would be taken off the road for driving such a vehicle. If the Police became aware that it had been like this for 6 months I am pretty sure the penalties would be pretty severe. Also bea aware that driving an unroadworthy vehicle would carry insurance implications if the OP had an accident.

Lets be honest, its not like the Ceed is a rare and specialist vehicle.

That is all going to depend on where & how big the crack is.

As a general rule, if you have any cracks – or even chips – in your windscreen that are bigger than 10mm and are in the A-Zone (which is a 290mm area directly in front of the driver), your car will fail its MOT. A crack or chip bigger than 40mm anywhere else on your windscreen will also result in a fail.

Fair comment but any crack on screen that has been there for 6 months will be bigger than 40mm. Got a chip once on my way to work, by the time I got home it was about an inch long, next morning it was right across the screen.

There are at least 5 different part numbers for the Ceed front screen. GT Line S will have lane departure warning so perhaps the camera fit position makes the screen unique to that model?

Still amazed that there isn't stock though....

The physical glass size will be same, minor differences will be add ons to suit model specs.

No manufacturer will make unique screens for each trim spec, it would be a logistical nightmare.

The screen for the GT Line S is unique.
Hood Automotive tire Asphalt Road surface Building

Automotive mirror Hood Automotive lighting Mirror Vehicle

Note the camera fitting.
Below shows the non s model...
Hood Automotive parking light Light Motor vehicle Vehicle

The black area on the screen is not removable nor interchangeable between screens.

I think the fact its an S model is the reason behind the issue...

I would agree with @Back again. Same screen size. Just differences in (C) and the features the car has.
All Ceed's will be based on the same chassis. So any differences will be the part (sticker) in front of the rear view mirror.

Probably but the glass will still be the same.
Quite obviously the glass dimension is the same. The chassis is the same between all trim levels, that's not in question.

Yes the glass is the same physical height/width but you cant fit any screen. You need the correct one. Or are you saying any Ceed screen will do?

You said that "No manufacturer will make unique screens for each trim spec, it would be a logistical nightmare." - I pointed out that they do make 5 different screens that are not interchangeable between trim levels. I don't see the relevance in the glass being the same size - you cannot fit any old ceed screen to any model..
Stuff like the rear view mirror mount, camera mount, and auto lights/wiper sensor position dictates you must fit the correct screen in my opinion.

I am saying that you cannot take a screen from a Ceed trim level 1 and fit it into a GT Line S.
They are different part numbers and are not interchangeable or modifyable. You cannot move the black dotted area on the screen, it's bonded to the glass at manufacture.

Hence they are different part numbers, and the OP is having trouble sourcing a screen as he's needs the specific version for a GT Line S which seems to be hard to find at the moment - this is the crux of the entire thread.

Of course the chassis is the same. That's obvious. I didnt try to say otherwise in my post.

I'm saying the screens are different, the black dotted area that the camera/light and rain sensor are located on is different. It's not a sticker than you can move around.

The OP needs a GT Line S specific screen.

Or are you saying any Ceed screen will fit and work correctly?

Would another screen fit. I would say YES. As to working, well that's a whole different ball game, not knowing exactly what devices are fitted and what area is blacked out on each screen.

As a aside KIA do not manufacture their own screens. They will be sourced from one of the few manufactures. Mostly part of the Saint Gobain group of companies

If the screen is the same as fitted to new ceeds now, then maybe some pressure on KIA to get one sent to the UK, but how long that would take is anyone's guess.

Hello Customer Service Team,
I have recently joined this forum to ask if anyone has experienced difficulties in sourcing replacement windscreens? Via my insurance company, I have been in touch with the top two U.K. replacement companies and neither can source the specific screen for my car. They do give me a monthly update, but it’s always the same negative, don’t know when. This situation has been going on for six months now and is so frustrating! Any answers/thoughts on who to contact? Pretty soon my MOT will run out and I won’t be able to use my car!! Many thanks, Macaw
