Hi GuysI'm thinking about buying a 2008 Sportage 2.0L Petrol. I took it for a test drive today and i noticed when changing down it was quite tricky to change down from 4 to 3 then to two (a bit clunky) I felt i had to usebit of force to select the lower gear. Changing up is fine. Is this one of the 'personalities' ofthe sportage or is this something a little more serious. the car has done 36k miles with FSHand has a tow bar fitted so its been used to tow something in a previous life.

any help most appreciated

thanks in advance

Jon H,

Have an XS diesel which I bought 2 yrs ago and have never had any such problems with the gears.
They are great vehicles so would be wary about buying that one as there could be later problems.

My 2.0l diesel has a very smooth gearbox. I would steer clear of it. My wife had a nissan micra with a similar fault and it spoiled the car completely. Seemed like a minor niggle to start with but after a while I could not stand driving it. We traded it in for the sportage in the end.
