We have a sporty GT line 1.6 auto-new last year in May with 16k on the clock, last week it started emitting a loud beep when looking at the car . Is this a sign that something is not as it should be?

I thought having a beep when locking is a sign there is a fault with your alarm?

I'm sure the UK version hasn't got the option of a horn feedback when locking.

If a car is fitted with an alarm, it's illegal to have any sound signalling activation or deactivation inthe UK.
It must be by visual means only.
A sound is often fine in other countries, so it's sometimes just a case of getting it activated.
I got my Audi dealer to do it on my A3, although he wasn't keen on doing so.
Our Renault Captur used to beep on lock, but that was allowed because it only had central locking, not an alarm.
So, to sum up:

Central locking only - a sound is allowed when locking or unlocking
Alarm as well - no sound allowed.

Silly, I know....
In reality, most manufacturers go for no sound at all.

Hi Peter,
The beep can indicate different things. If it is three short beeps then this indicates that there was a problem with the Alarm and it has disabled itself. I had this problem on my 2016 registered Sportage but after the alarm started going off randomly. I believe this was a fault in the Siren.

If it is a continuous beep then this could indicate that you have left a door open, left the keyless entry key in the vehicle or a fault door lock.

Best to take it to a dealer and ask them to investigate, especially if it is the three short beeps, as the part for the alarm is usually on back order and can take about three weeks to be delivered to the dealer.

I went through about 4 visits to the Dealer and being told just to reset the alarm and that would fix it but most of the time it would go again shortly after I got home. It is only when I insisted that there was a none fault in the interior sensor they started to look deeper and then found the other fault.

Thanks, I had the triple beep on locking issue. Dealer advised disconnecting the battery for 5 mins, or bring it in for them to do. I wasn't keen on doing the battery myself so was planning on taking it in. Just tried the yellow switch to 'off' for 5 mins and it has solved the problem. Will see for how long. If it comes back I'm just booking it straight in for investigation.

Alarm Beeping on locking

I have the 67 plate Optima sports Waggon. Yesterday it starting beeping when I lock the car up. I have looked at the forum and turned the yellow switch off for 40 minutes. Still not fixed so I will take it to the dealer to look at. (Also tried the other key...still beeped 3 times)

My 2016 Sportage experienced the same "3 bleep" syndrome just a couple of weeks ago. As suggested by the various threads on the forum relating to this issue (thanks Indalo and others) I turned off the yellow fuse switch (for approximately 30 minutes) then turned it back on and it seems to have cured it.

As stated elsewhere, doing this will reset all your trip computer figures. Not a big deal though.

Had the same issue with the alarm and the magic yellow switch did the business.

Also, might be of some interest to some people is that I had some other messages on a different occasion about my front and back packing sensors. The message was "Parking sensor function fault" or something like that "Contact dealer".

I checked them all out examined with torch etc etc and nothing seemed wrong. I tried everything, even over night hoping it would be gone in the morning the next time I started the car, but it didn't. However, I remembered the yellow switch from when I had the beep on locking issue, so I switched it off for 5 mins and hey presto it all reset and is working fine. That was over a month ago and I have had no issues since.

Thanks

Although I have successfully 'cured' the bleeping sound on locking the car by turning off the fuse switch, I really don't know if it works by simply turning it off and straight back on.

I left it off for over half an hour as I recall and it sorted the problem so all I can tell you is that it does work. When you're doing nothing important, with a bit of time on your hands, give it a try - first with a quick off-on job and if unsuccessful, leave it switched off for longer - then you'll know.

Due to pickup a sportage and dealer was saying that no beep is normal with the car even if a door is left open and you are trying to lock..can someone please confirm how to activate this? On my previous sportage when the door wasn't closed properly ot used to give a beep to alert that one of the doors wasn't closed properly.
