What’s the secret to getting a Sportage to unlock all the doors at the same time?

Every car Ive ever owned (with auto lock) has unlocked all the doors when the first person (passenger or driver) gets out, but not the Sportage.

So, for example, so done in the car has a jacket or bag on the back seat or boot, when you stop the car and they get out stop get out of the car the back doors and boot are still locked.

The fix for the driver can be Auto Unlock on vehicle off, but thats not good if you’re dropping a passenger off.

Auto unlock on Shift to P sounds like the solution, but it doesn’t work all the time, it sounds like it unlocks everything but half the time the back is still locked - unless I am doing something wrong.

I’m thinking of turning the auto lock off, but would prefer not to, can anyone tell me what I’m doing wrong, there must be a reliable way to Auto Unlock the doors, so far all I’ve found that works for me is the unlock button. That sounds sensible I know, but having never had to touch that button in any previous car it feels wrong and old habits are hard to break.

There are 3, you can also find them in the app, picture below.
Auto Unlock on vehicle off
Auto Unlock on shift to park
and off.

Only Auto Unlock on vehicle off works as expected every time, but isn’t that useful
Off leaves every door locked
Auto Unlock on shift to park, sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t and I’ve no idea why it sometimes doesn’t.

I’m hoping I’m doing something wrong or in the wrong order, but I’ve no idea what.

It would seem you’ve exhausted all possibilities (according to the manual). I reckon your only recourse is to get used to using the unlock button on the drivers door. I’m assuming you‘ve not activated the ‘child locks’ on the rear doors?

No, no child locks, its access from outside I referring to, so just locks. If you’re inside the car no issues just pull the handle and you’re out.
The frustrating thing is the unlock on shift to park should work for me but is inconsistent, so I hoping it is something I’m doing wrong. Maybe like the 17 plate comment, there is an unwritten order things need to be done in.
Should be such a simple thing.

I’ll try changing the auto lock setting, illogical expecting how the car locks to impact how it unlocks but you never know

It does seem to tie in with what the setting says in Kia Connect……..

In Kia Connect it definitely says “Selects the condition when all doors will unlock automatically.”. So I would expect the doors to lock when shifted out of ‘Park’ with the engine running.
As you can see from the screenshot, I have mine set to unlock on engine off.
My thought was that if you’re stopped in traffic and you decided to select “P” to avoid dazzling drivers behind with your brake lights, then you would be unlocking all the doors, which could lead to some opportunist ‘scrote’ opening up any door and grabbing anything left on the seat.

Actually I’ve just noticed that the entry you highlighted above, and the one above it in the manual are identical 🤷‍♂️!!!!!

Surely they should be different, and the lower one should surely read “doors will be unlocked automatically when the vehicle is shifted into P (Park)”, not locked and shifted out of P!

Correct - trouble is it only unlocks sometimes, for me anyway.
And that’s probably when something else happens out of sequence, only I can’t figure out what that something else is.

I think what I might do is temporarily change my option in Kia Connect to ”Auto Unlock on Shift to P”, just to see if mine behaves the same as you’re saying that yours does……or otherwise!

Mine unlocks all doors via key or door button, locks all via key or door button, do not lock when driving as I do not like that feature, when I stop I just press stop/start button, engine goes off and car goes to park itself and EPB engages fully.
This cars a September 2023 and came like that, as did our 2022 one. No doubt my 2024 one will as well when it arrives.

I have noticed this not unlocking of doors other than drivers door. Mine is set to auto lock when driving and to unlock when P is selected. I think where the issue is is that turning off the car does automatically put the car in P, but crucially the driver did not select P. I have tried selected P before key off and the other doors do unlock as expected. Seems a pedantic of Kia to require driver to actually select P rather than the car being in P to make the doors unlock. Give it a try and see if it is the same for you.

Just by chance I got caught out by this at lunch time. Set to unlock when P is selected and has worked perfectly, but today I stopped the car and switched the engine off. EPB engaged and both front doors opened from the inside, but the rear doors could not be opened from the outside. Lesson learnt, always put car in P before switching off.

This drives my wife nuts. I regularly drop her off and she gets out and can't open the back doors to get her stuff.
If I am dropping off with the car stopped or in 'Auto Hold' then I use the unlock button on the drivers door to allow access to the rear doors. Seems odd to have to go into full switch off and park, and yes, I know its safer but I'm just not used to it.
