Can anyone tell me if the 24mm bolt on the side of the casing (close to N/S/F driveshaft halfway up) is the fill point for ATF? if so is it like any other trans were you fill and let trickle out indicating it's at level?
Reason i ask, no matter what i do regarding ATF fill KIA Instruction, it's either not enough if going by volume put in and dipstick OR too much going by how much it's suposed to hold.

Either dipstick is wrong or KIA are telling their techies to put too much in !!

Any ideas anyone??

It's running great but fear it's got to much in.

Go with the dipstick, the g'box oil should be at normal running temp when you check. The initial measurment is to have enough oil in the box so that the vehicle can be driven through all ranges even reverse to the required temp - then adjust level

We did a full drain/extraction of trans fluid. There is no way you can have it on the levels by putting in 10.7 litres. We didn't recover that much in the first place. Yet KIA tell you it does !!

About 2 inches
We know it has the correct amout of fluid in though according to KIA. That's what baffles me and makes me wonder if the dealers are going by dipstick level over Kia saying put 10.7 litres in !!

Draining the gearbox only empties about half the fluid - the other half will still be in the torque convertor, so adding 10l to a newly emptied gearbox will severly overfill it. At least this is what I'm learning, not sure I want to pay Kia £170 for the priviledge when I can buy the SPIII oil for £35 and my local garage will charge £25 to do the refill. It's hardly a complicated job, can't see what the experts at Kia will add to the job than my mechanic.

I didn't just drain the geabox though. I did a KIA Spec fluid drain which includes the torque converter.
KIA did the previous drain. When i drained the torq/gearbox, onlyroughly 6 litres came out.

Well.......drained thetrans so it shows correct on the dipstick. Gear change no where near as smooth. Spoke to a Auto trans specialist, even he recons the dipstick sounds as though its marked wrong. Put more fluid back in, changes perfect. Nice and smooth. If it was over filled, it would blow out the breather plus foam up etc surely.
