Bought the latest Auto Express this morning and the new Driver Power survey is in the magazine. The Ceed is 14th overall (7 places up from last year)and 4th in class, not a bad result at all. The mechanically identical Hyundai i30 finnished 9th overall (9 down from last year)but stillwonthe class.

Kia as a manufacturer are 13th overall (up 5 places from last year) and Hyundai are 4th overall (up 2 places from last year). The percentage differences betwen Kia and Hyundai are actually quite small, both very good results for the brands compared to most mainstream offerings The Ceed was remarkably consistent in the individual categories with a best of 10th place for costs and a worst of 43rd place for ride quality (why?). The i30 was equally consistent with a best of 8th for reliability and 41st for performance.

Looking at the results there are some surpises to be seen. 13th overall is the Rover 75, how? no body wanted one when they made them. To be honest it won both the comfort and ride categories but the remaining results were average at best, without those wins it would have been way down the chart. Vaxhall have 2 models, the Insomnia and new Ashtray, in the top 10, remarkable when in previous years they were lucky to be at the bottom. The Nissan Qashqai is 5th overall when its previous results have been appaling. Guess Vauxhall and Nissan must have upped their game.

Business at the very top is just has it has been for a number of years now, Skoda have 1st, 2nd and 3rd places and are best manufacturer, Kia and Hyundai have a way to go yet but are steadily improving.

Worth at read.

PS Should add that the Ceed was the only Kia model that enough owners could be ar5ed to report on to get it into the survey. Where did all the other Kia owners get too.
