Hello.. is this normal behaviour for my Kia Sportage?

Lock the car, doors lock and exterior handle lamps stay brightly illuminated for 10 - 15 seconds and then go dim. The door handle lights never go off when parked and locked. Our last Sportage did not do this. The lights are so dim they are best seen in pitch darkness but they are staying on. I would say it is not enough to drain the battery but if car was left parked for weeks on end, maybe then an issue.

Hi Macspot. This is when the car is in park and locked.
Again no, it comes on when the engine is switched off, but it switches off as soon as I press the button to lock the car. Having said that, at night, if you have the Welcome/Escort facility switched on, they may stay on until the headlights switch off. It's not something I've looked for, but it wouldn't surprise me if they did.

Thank you mr.macspot. The lights behave the same as yours but the issue is with the door handle light goes dim instead of going off completely. I've read the owners handbook inside out and there is no mention of these pocket lamps staying on at all. Dealer says they will go off after 30 minutes but they don't. They're not interested in even investigating whether this is a fault.

30 seconds, maybe - 30 minutes, they are having a laugh. It sounds like a fault to me, maybe someone else will confirm how their works.
Out of interest is it just the one side?

Both sides. Will try and get a picture tonight if I can.

These are tiny LEDs, are they not? I can't say I have ever paid any attention to the lamps on my Optima,
only noting that they light up in conjunction with the mirror unfolding routine when it's dark. I don't know if they illuminate in daylight but surely they must go off completely at some point?......or am I missing the point. Your dealer seems to be saying that they are functioning correctly or have I got that wrong?

Thats right. Tiny LED inside the exterior door handle. Dealer didn't even look at it just gave a dubious response. I don't think it's right that the LED stays dimly lit all the time even during the day. Need another owner to confirm before I go back.

Well, there's no shortage of Sportage owners in the forum so perhaps one of them will pop up soon and present the information you need.

I don't know what year car you have but I've just checked my 17 plate GT Line S and the lights are definitely off.

@Jay.PM I've been out the the car and experimented with headlights in off and auto mode.

Approaching car and either open with fob or handle button, light comes on.
Enter car and start car and the light goes out.
Switch engine off, exit car and light comes on.
Lock car by either fob or handle button, light goes out.

I hope that helps.

Hi Jay.PM
My business partner has just taken delivery of the same model Sportage as yours and had the same problem, he went back to the dealer and the problem was water in the electrics, he needed a new part of the wiring loom and problem solved.

Someone on the facebook page has the same issue. It's 100% not normal and apparently the dealers have a TSB article on it so it's a known fault.

Before the OP tackles his nearest KIA dealer with this info, it might be worthwhile for him to run it by the KIA Customer Support group in these pages - they should know about TSBs.
