They could simply host the update on their website then allow you to download it onto a Memory stick/flash drive or SD card then carry out the update at home, Not hard really.

Hi,My dealer (Chippenham motor company, Bumpers Farm) told me last week that they have not heard of any update from Kia and therefore it wasn't done during it's annual service.

Can you confirm there is definitely an update for 2016 Sportage (GT Line) owners please?

So technically then you want the firmware updates done FOC to see if it resolve your bug.I think it would be reasonable to ask them to do that under warranty.

If it doesn't then no harm done and you don't suffer the indignity of paying for a failure or acting as a guinea pig.

You might then in your renewed enthusiasm for the marque decide the later maps are worth having and buy them after all i.e treat it as two completely separate transactions.

I know for certain the firmware can be updated whilst leaving the old maps in situ because a Dealer in Ireland has just cocked up and done that very thing today ;)
My thoughts exactly! The recent software update does indeed fix the bug that currently exists.

Their justification has always been that you are paying for the dealer's time in installing the update. If so, for me the unanswered question is why these updates cannot be provided in a form for installation by the user.

Not sure how the update is performed, but if no special equipment is required then i agree. Along with a statement "If you make a mess of it we will fix it for X amount"

But people would just moan about it failing, and expect it fixed for free.  And there always be the people who do it without the engine running (or the car on a charger, and the stereo close down halfway through.

On balance, I think £25 is fair.  If it goes wrong, the dealer can get onto technical support and get it fixed.

My lovely new dealer (not the people I bought the car from) even waived the charge.  I know where I'll be going when it comes round to service time in June.

Interesting. The DAB info still doesn't seem to work on the Sorento 8" displays.

But I've got Android Auto now, which is what I really wanted. And the new maps even have my road!

Hahahaha I've just had Kia call me earlier and say I believe you want your satnav head unit software updating so would you like to book it in for this.
Then she goes onto say well we don't really know or have a clue what software you want updating but would you still like me to book it in ˜‚˜‚˜‚
I said are you having a laugh ˜¡˜¡
I spent 2 pointless hours in your showroom the other week whilst your mechanic didn't bother to check what version it had before he started to which he finished up putting the same software on the head unit as that's all ready on the car.

So maybe if and when they know what version they have and also know what the hell your doing then they should give me a call back.

After removing the SD card and putting into my computer, it looks like the SD card 16GB is just for the Satnav with all countries and languages on it.

The file "mapdb_ver.txt" will show the Map version installed. i.e. my one is shown to be, "EUR.08.47.50.001.001" // 2015 1Q for All Europe and Russia (LCN)

I assume the other software updates is for the vehicle memory side, updated through some other secret method. Perhaps someone is the magic circle could clarify for us lesser mortals.

Certainly via USB port for aftermarket systems. However, I suspect this will be by connecting the dealers computer to the OBD port for factory fit radios.

I seem to be having loads of issues even finding a dealer who knows what I'm asking for!

First dealership I called never phoned back, and when I called in, they were confused and asked me why I wanted to pay for stuff using my car stereo unit, as they misheard it as Apple Car Pay....

Once this was corrected, I kept being told that it was already on the head unit, even though I told them it wasn't...

When I went back, I allowed for an hour for the software load, sat around for half an hour until they found out that what I was saying was correct, and then told me that they no longer had time to do it that day. As it wasn't local to me, I decided to try my local dealership.

Called my local dealership, and once again had to explain that it wasn't already on there, and tested I had checked.... I explained that there was a software update SD card that had been sent out, and the person went to check, and I was then told that they hadn't received theirs yet.

Called two other dealerships in my local area, and was told I would be called back the next day, and have yet to hear back...

Loving the car, but all this chasing for a simple software update is really annoying!

One interesting point was that the first dealership explained that the reason it has to be done at a dealership, is that the update often wipes the map data, and they have to manually re-install the map data. Not sure how this would happen, as I'm guessing the SD card with the map data is removed to allow the software update, so not entirely sure that this is correct... Edited by: archangel

Hi Archangel,

I have been trying for a few days to get answers also. KCS is very little help, seems to be a collective and selective deafness to our problem of updates.

The rear door water channel upgrade, DAB radio, Phone, other Software and Maps information is unclear at dealers.

Dealer time spent to rectify the KIA design faults seems to be an issue that's hidden and thus they try not to admit works needed.

On purchase of the vehicle was told all updates would be done at first service, this was done 2 weeks ago with no mention of updates.

I am booked in next week to get mine done.

Good luck with yours

I have a gtline sportage petrol dct, purchased last May, when I was told that apple CarPlay would be available at some time. I was assured when I bought it that it was just a matter of waiting, then paying ÂŁ25 for the update. Reading these posts, will I get CarPlay? Because if not, I will have been misled at the time of purchase.

You won't get it only 2017 models with different head units get it

I've given up on Kia and the software update as it seems my local dealership still haven't a clue about the latest update.
I'll just stick to music on a memory stick and my old tomtom which has free map updates along with decent traffic info that's a lot more accurate than the head units info.Edited by: Gazza1970
