So can any MY16 sportage owners confirm whether or not the "No Info" bug has been fixed with the latest update?

I have a 2017 Optima GT SW registered October 2016 that was supposed to have had Apple Carplay from new. The dealer then said this would be available 1st quarter 2017 thus would you be able to comfirm 100% that this update will include the Carplay feature on this model please.

Will we still have to pay for this update?

Many Thanks

(sorry couldn't find a way to pm you)

Hi all

Kia UK are delighted to announce the release of the latest map and software updates for all factory fitted head units.

Our dealers have now received their bulletins for this procedure but please note SD cards are being posted over the next few days.We recommend making contact with your dealer next week to enquire about making a booking as our servicing teams won't wish to arrange before SD cards have been received and checked.

We can confirm:

- The ÂŁ25 charge remains and this is to be retained by your dealer for their workshop time.
- All platforms must receive both software and map updates combined.
- Software updates will provide (when available) enhancements to Bluetooth compatibility, additional features e.g. connected services and bug fixes.
- The package includes Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for those vehicles with head unit / steering wheel compatibility. (Please PM us your VIN if you'd like us to check)

Kind regards

Hi minimarvel

We can confirm your Optima will be able to receive Apple
CarPlay with this update.

Regarding the charge, this is standard across all
dealers to cover their workshop time and is something you'd need to discuss
with your selling dealer if it's convenient to return to that branch for the
update.

This is to KCS:

Should be be paying to rectify a bug that has existed since day dot? I know it's only ÂŁ25, just seems a bit harsh.

It seems like the infotainment system is treated differently to other aspects of the car,i know this isn't a safety issue but plenty of work is done under warranty that isn't safety related.

I'm aware the Payment is taken by the garage doing the service, ÂŁ25 to update an SD card? That has to be one of the best hourly rates going..

You have stated above you don't have any info on any other bug fixes or improvements, so don't reply with "The update has a whole host of improvements, not just the "no info" bug".

I can't understand how they can charge for the update to people who brought a new car and being told that it had CarPlay but didn't. Surely this is a breach of trading standards. Telling someone that it has something only to find out it hasn't then being charged extra for it.

I was never told that, but i'm sure some people were. If i was, i'd be a bit miffed.

Did your salesman tell you it had it? None of the literature stated it.

Hi markgi2

All software enhancements can only be installed in conjunction with the map update. Installing only part of the package will result in system failure so we're sorry we're unable to separate this.

To clarify, the ÂŁ25 covers the dealer's workshop time as the car needs to be connected to their computer throughout the process. Depending on the AVN version, cars can take between 20 and 90 mins to receive the update. So our dealers are retaining ÂŁ25 for a slot which in normal circumstances can commonly earn them double this.

Please give us a call on 0333 202 2990 to discuss if you have further issues with this charge.

HiChrispy

This sounds like reference to a 2016 press release rather
than a Kia UK spec sheet or dealer advice; Apple CarPlay not being listed in any sales literature last year.

Press releases are prepared for the benefit of the
media, for their consideration for publication and as such are neither an offer
for sale nor a legally confirmed commitment of showroom specification.

The information that is published in these press releases
is correct at the time of release but between production of press materials and
the on-sale-date of a vehicle, items / specifications can and do change.

We hope this helps.

I'm a software developer, so i know it's possible to install the software update without the maps, nice try though

I will be giving you a call, i will not be paying to fix your bugs! And your maps will almost certainly be at least 1 year out of date.

It wasn't from a press release. Someone on here said in a post that the salesman told them that it had CarPlay. Sorry I can't find the post at the moment as the search isn't working at the moment.

Pretty much immaterial, why tell the public that the best selling car of last year wasn't going to get CarPlay until they upgraded the head unit nine months after release because they already knew that AVN2 wasn't compatible? Nothing to do with lost sales whilst people would wait....Edited by: bydandie

It's not a recall is it for any safety concerns? To right the customer should pay. 25quid seems very fair considering kia could've made it a lot steeper.
Pay to fix something that has never worked on a new ÂŁ25,000 car?

To be fair to both my dealer and Kia - I got my Optima SW on the 31 October, I had asked both the dealer in advance if the car would have CarPlay. Both stated very clearly that it would not BUT they were hoping to have it available in the UK market in Q1 2017 and there was a likelihood that there would a charge for this addition to the specification.

To date that is exactly what has been the case

If it was sold with Apple CarPlay then you have recourse in my opinion, if not then it is an upgrade/ addition to spec and therefore you have the option to take it up at a cost or don't...
