Hi all

Kia UK are delighted to announce the release of the latest map and software updates for all factory fitted head units.

Our dealers have now received their bulletins for this procedure but please note SD cards are being posted over the next few days.We recommend making contact with your dealer next week to enquire about making a booking as our servicing teams won't wish to arrange before SD cards have been received and checked.

We can confirm:

- The ÂŁ25 charge remains and this is to be retained by your dealer for their workshop time.
- All platforms must receive both software and map updates combined.
- Software updates will provide (when available) enhancements to Bluetooth compatibility, additional features e.g. connected services and bug fixes.
- The package includes Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for those vehicles with head unit / steering wheel compatibility. (Please PM us your VIN if you'd like us to check)

Kind regards

I have done a map update on a C4GP, 30minutes to download the file, a search for a suitable unzipping programme, Unzipped onto several memory sticks until 1 would read in the C4GP, excitement of sitting there for 45minutes with engine running while screen cycled with messages then an odd message about starting the process again. Not sure C4 would ever come back to life, it did but I wasn't confident!
I work in IT and the above process wasn't straight forward - ÂŁ25 is a small price to pay!

The real reason imho is to keep the process in house and out of the hands of those nice honest chappies on Ebay (aka Pirates) and who can blame them, Ebay being the biggest fencing operation and source of stolen goods on the planet.
Most BMW owners have not paid for a BMW Navigation update ever because they can be bought from drug dealers and other such crooks or if they are semi intelligent downloaded from a billion places. The process albeit a bit messy prating about generating FSC codes etc is perfectly doable for even your average BMW driver.

Note your average BMW driver as everyone knows is typically severely physically disabled and mentally traumatised after losing a once perfectly good hand due to the fact their entire left arm was blown off the moment they first stupidly operated the indicator stalk and clearly inserting an SD card in a slot will be a challenge.

HTH.

Have a good weekend

Will the 2018 update enable Android Auto to work via WiFi with your phone?

If you don't have a Nexus or Pixel device, don't lose hope but I wouldn't count on a quick solution. Auto team member Lawrence says that, "For non-Google devices, we are actively working with phone manufacturers on adding software compatibility and hope to share more updates soon."
Given the head unit already has a WiFi option for TT. It may work already the the listed Google branded phones. Anything else is in the hands of the manufactures.... And their desire to add the facility.

Personally as my car does not have a wireless charging pad, I would still have to use the usb connection anyway for the link, and to charge the phone. I still have a 3 port plug in charger in the 12V socket for the dash cam. So have options to charge other devises as well.

But can understand why people would love the wireless option if they have a charging pad and a compatiblephone.

I have the Pixel 2 phone, I connected my phone to the WiFi via WiFi tethering (it was the only way for my phone and car to find each other's WiFi).

A WiFi android auto sort of disclaimer came up, but on the car, no pop up to say I could use it via WiFi instead of a wire.

So I think a car software update is needed for it to work - if Kia are looking to support this functionality.

Do you know when in June this will be available. My car is going in for service and map update around 13th and wanted it all done at same time. Will this still be possible?

Sorry, it's not planned to enable Android Auto functionality through Wi-Fi.

Any reason why Not?

The technology is too new and I doubt cars with wifi have the facility to do this. When the car was made wifi android auto hadn't been thought of!

I have a 66 plate Sportage that was first registered in January 17. The dealer said that it had android auto when I bought it a week ago but now they tell me it doesn't. Will an update to the SD card give it that functionality?Edited by: sprout

Sprout, currently no update is available to our headhunts with AVN 2. It's possible it comes in the future but nothing confirmed. Until then I have my phone set for the Android Auto app to open automatically once the car bluetooth is connected. I have it mounted on one of those magnetic vent mounts. The only difference is not utilising the in build screen and not having the voice recognition button but "OK Google" gets round that.

I have exactly the same problem, I thought it was down to my phone (Huawei Mate 10 Pro) but maybe it's the Android Auto app. What handset do you have?
