I have has this vehicle for about a 2months now. Its a diesel with 130000 on the clock and has a scattered service history.
The problem I am experiencing is as follows,

Car slowly creeps forward when in neutral and even in park until it clunks and stops. When in reverse it used to move without any throttle but now needs an extra push of the accelerator.

I am now thinking I should stop using the car as in first gear as I pull off there is a nasty bearing noise that goes when it changes up a gear.

I phoned a specialist for some advise and wish I hadnt. He said to me that it was something called a brake band that wears into the casing and would cost me in the range of £2000 to fix.

Please help

It would be cheaper to look for a low milage (compared to yours) second hand box on Ebay than have yours fixed. It does sound like the specilist is right , I had the same kind of thing on a Sierra estate years back

Totally agree I cant afford that much so would have to be second hand. Just want to be sure before spending out anything that it is terminal and not something stupid like oil or adjustment. Has anyone else had a similar issue.

sounds like the valve body in the gearbox has an issue allowing oil pressure to be applied to the brake band only way is a total strip and rebuild so i would look for a second hand box
