vehicle Excise Duty rates are changing again from April 1st 2018.

This calculator will tell you all you need to know.

http://www.nextgreencar.com/car-tax/calculator/#calculator

The result is that Niro models 1 and 2 will pay £90 for the first year and £130 per year thereafter

Niro models 3 and 4 will pay £130 for the first year and the same thereafter.

A KIA Sportage diesel 1.7 auto will pay £160 for the first year and £140 thereafter. Not much punishment for buying a diesel then which contradicts the media hype.

Porche Cayenne hybrids will pay £1190 for the first year and £440 therafter. That has just put me off swapping my car. .

Sounds good to me as £30 for a biggish car with 40+mpg seems incentive enough for me to keep hold of it a bit longer.Smile

Only applies to vehicles registered after April 2017.

Pre April 2017 then the existing rules apply

It's still 30 nicker for me regardless so I'm happy.

The hope the link I posted made it clear that the new rates apply only to cars registered from April 2018.

My Niro, registered in March 2017, will continue to be zero rated.

I posted the info to support my argument that the media hype that diesels were being savaged is untrue. Mind you - I think they should pay a lot more than they will be required to do. The government are scared of crippling the Land rover Jaguar group who have invested heavily in their range of diesels and are ill prepared to change direction. Hence they are being kind to them - for the time being.

I appreciate yours will stay at £0, I was just confirming that my understanding is cars registered post April 2017 but pre April 2018 will not be affected.
