Hi all

Magentis 07.

There's a loud squelling sound that sppears to be coming from region of the pulleys and it's stumped us. It sounds on start up but clears after 5 mins even if just sat running on drive.
We've phone video'd it with sound and shown it to a few ppl who are car savvy but to no avail.

Doesn't appear to affect performance and all usual checks like oil are fine.

Happy to email the vid to anyone who may recognise this fault.

Cheers guys.

Tighten the belts perhaps. If extra load is put on by the alternator on start up it can cause the belt to slip. Same with other belts. If you have checked them please disregard this

Water pump would be my guess.
Had 3 x Mk2 Carens, 2 x Mk3 Carens, a 2006 Magentis, a Soul 1.6hdi Auto Mixx in White over Powder, all diesel, now gone to the darkside with a Renault Koleos!

As Grumps indicated above, this is usually down to a slipping alternator belt recharging the current used in starting. One way to pin it down to the belt is to give the belt a good spray with WD40 (don't make a habit of it!) to see if that shuts it up. If it does-and depending on the condition of the belt-either re tension it or renew it.
