More chance of winning Euro Millions than getting 88 mpg. Nice looking a car though and despite what a lot people say having looked at them with father they are not bad value when compared to the opposition.

These MPG figures remind me of a friend of mine who owned a VW Golf that did 62MPG..

When asked how she knew she replied,"oh it's always got 62MPG".

I then asked her to record the mileage and fuel used to calculate the actual MPG.

She was very disappointed to discover her 62MPG Golf actually did 45MPG consistently Wink

I also drove a Toyota Aygo a few years back that was supposed to get something approaching 70MPG. It managed 55MPG which is still pretty good.

One car that I previously owned that actually got better than advertised MPG was the 1.3L Proton Persona. You cold get 49MPG on a run and low 40's on average.

If you drove it without thinking of fuel economy you'd be down to 32MPG...

Our Picanto was only getting 36MPG at one point but that increased to 39~42 in recent months. The best we've seen is 46MPG.

My last car was a Hyundai Coupe - that acheived 36MPG (average) but could do 47MPG on a run from Galashiels to Newport (Wales) - something I was doing every 2nd weekend in 2010. I thought that was pretty impressive.

Does not bode well, but it could be something as simple as the transmission supplier being too busy supplying the standard ratio to tool up and produce the longer ratio box. It only takes one unique element to be delayed to halt production of a particular model.

The economy thing is important to me, being a driving instructor, a small and efficient engine is most useful, but all sorts of things will affect economy. Tall gearing is one element, the other is smaller narrower tyres. My current car is a Mini Cooper D with a Chilli pack which included slightly larger wheels. These help ensure the car never reaches its claimed figures, but the extra 20mm of tread per wheel will definitely make a noticeable and significant dent in the fuel economy. I was going to try and order a Rio 2 with the Rio 1 wheels.

The Mini, in everyday teaching use, averages 55mpg, but if I take it on a long run I can get to over 70mpg. Not the claimed 74, but not far short.

Hi, No good news I'm afraid.

I am still struggling to get the garage to agree to letting me have the 1.1 crdi 'Air' for the original price of the non air.

I am starting to gather the information to process a claim for delay through the small claims court.

Not that its any consolation but the wait times on the Sportage were horendous, I got lucky.  Also the MPG claims are way over what you get, I get 26 MPG in the AWD and thats way below the advertised rates.
