Hello, I think the reserve is good for about 4ltrs of fuel. i did 12 miles in my 2.0l before seeing a petrol station and the needle hadn't fallen of the gauge. After that excitement I always fill up at 1/4 full. I'm really pleased with mine (2004 auto) and its done 60k trouble free mles. Great car. Paulg
