Hi, I have a Kia Cee'd LS 1.6 2007 model.

I recently lost one of my keys and would like to have it replaced. I still retain 1 key which can be cloned. I wanted to know if it's possible to buy a blank key fob and have this cut and programmed to my car? I've seen blank fobs on Google for less than £10.00 and was wondering if anyone knows how I might get these programmed? Or is it best to just buy a complete replacement key fob from a dealer or website?

I have seen quotes of between £120 - £180 on some websites for a replacement key fob and feel is quite high.

any help would be appreciated.

thanks

Nip into your neerest Timpson. The one where I live was really helpful. Mine was for a proton and lotus wanted more than the value of the car to set up a new fob. Timpson did it for a fraction of the price. Oh yeah. Forgot they didn’t stock the blank but I got one one eBay and they cut it for me. Works perfect every time. Good luck

Yes they can. They even have spare chips they can clone in.

they definitely did mine. The other option you might have is to get the key cut by them and take it to a Kia dealer to programme. That will take the cost down.

Probably find the dealer takes a blank to a key cutter anyway, as doubt any have a key cutting machine on site.

Local Kia dealer gives vin number of motor to Kia central parts center who cut the key. The key is then programmed to motor by Kia dealer. There are other specialist that can do it if you can find a good one.

Timpson, from my experience are pretty hopeless, the guy local to me is the worst case scenario.

Have a look on Aliexpress for a KIA Cee'd remote, e.g.

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/QCONTROL-433MHz-Car-Remote-Key-for-KIA-CEED-Pro-Ceed-Cee-d-SW-SEKS-AM08FTx-CE0678/32851142453.html?spm=2114.search0104.3.16.766c9539TZsRv0&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_5_10065_10344_10130_10068_10324_10342_10547_10325_10343_10340_10548_10341_10192_10190_10084_10083_10618_10307_10301_10303_10313_10059_10184_10534_100031_10103_441_10624_442_10623_10622_10621_10620_10142,searchweb201603_1,ppcSwitch_3&algo_expid=8c82e454-5842-4ba3-903b-5bab98256223-2&algo_pvid=8c82e454-5842-4ba3-903b-5bab98256223&priceBeautifyAB=0

I bought one for my Hyundai i20 but luckily I had the old key so that I could break out the already programmed chip and re-use it. There's videos on YouTube (mainly Indian fellas) showing you how to do that.

That's the little rectangular object with one corner sliced off in the picture.

Timpson as a company rule will NOT cut a supplied key. YMMV of course...

The roughly £7 blank key (from Aliexpress) was £70+ at Timpson, plus cutting & programming.

Find a local independent key cutter and give them a call - I used a place called Apache in Dalkeith. They can cut and program keys. That's likely to be miles away from you of course!
