We had a Sportage with tow hook but when we got the NIRO we were told it is NOT appropriate for towing - I expect it screws up the complex algorithms that deal with EV mode and regenerative charging

No because in Europe you can tow with a Niro if you select the factory option, it is just Kia UK chose not to offer the tow pack. At least it is more practical than an Ioniq where you can’t even fit a roof rack either!

You are right in that Kia UK decided NOT to gived UK customers the option of towing or a tow bar for bikes racks. We purchased a tow bar kit detachable plus 7 pin electrics from Germany and had it fitted at Kia dealer locally. no problems at all. Great for transporting our two electric bikes. if any Niro owner wants more info please get in touch. Beware though as not all Kia dealer's are prepared to do the fitting, including the dealer group where we bought the Niro !!!
