As a retired engineer I'm a sucker for such programs and record them all for watching later!
They are particularly good as they go back to the discoverer/inventor of the technique they are discussing.

We can do with more engineers - especially as Dyson seems to be snapping them all up for the new EV he is developing! Big smile

An optimist says the glass is half full.
A pessimist says the glass is half empty.
An engineer says why did they make the glass too big?
Was a '63 C'eed 3 diesel.
Is a '66 Niro 3 hybrid.
Why is my car named after an American/ Italian actor?

The new model 3 is about £28k in US but probably won't be available here for several years in spite of them turning out 2000 a week!
And in any case will probably be a lot more here! Cry

Tim,
They have just announced that the model 3 will get dual motors and air suspension which with all the extras like auto pilot etc take the price up to $70k

When it gets released in the UK in a few years time - it will be a straight dollar - pound conversion so I bet it will be £35k base

Then add
£1000 paint option
£9000 for extra range option
£1500 for different wheels
£5000 for updated auto pilot etc etcLOL

That'll give Dyson a chance when his new battery and car appear in 5 years time! Wink

Think I'll have to switch to Dacia then! Ouch

There are only 299 examples on UK roads of the saloon/sedan Optima PHEV which is pretty derisory, although I'm sure this SW/Estate version will be of more interest.....but it's still marginal.
An Atkinson cycle 2 litre engine is fine for lower power charging of batteries but anyone munching the motorway miles has a relatively inefficient engine for the purpose that is also lugging around a load of batteries that can't offer much towards economy or lower emissions in the real world.
The depreciation on the PHEV saloon is terrible...over £10k lost in under 12 months and as little as 8000 miles covered....at one point there were over 50 on Autotrader. I'd go for the '3' trim if it had AEB and BLIS etc and an effective £6k saving buys many litres of fuel and the car depreciates slower!
2016 Sportage '4' 1.7crdi Gun Metal - From 13.4.16 Lovin' it. 36k miles covered ave 46mpg
2014 Sportage Black Edition 1.7crdi 25.7.14-13.4.16. 37k+ enjoyable miles covered, averaging 48mpg.
